How to treat a dirty pool

2. Fill pool higher than normal.
3. Switch filter handle to 'recirculate'. (Or remove cartridge if cartridge filter.)
4. If fitted, switch off salt chlorinator.
5. Brush down walls and floor of pool.
6. Adjust Total Alkalinity (TA) and pH if required, as if incorrect chlorine and flocculant may not work properly.
7. Shock dose pool with chlorine at the rate of 300g per 10,000L of water. Pre-dissolve chlorine in a bucket of water, before adding to pool.
8. Run pump for approximately 2 hours.
9. Add floc (alum or synthetic floc such as Maxi-Floc Plus) at the dosage specified on packaging, pre-dissolved in water. Run pump for approx. 2 hours to mix.
10. Turn off pump and filter and allow sediment to settle to the floor (usually takes approx. 6-24 hours).
11. Switch filter handle to 'waste'. Vacuum to waste using a manual vac cleaner (not an automatic cleaner). (Or bypass valve to waste if cartridge filter system).
12. If fitted, switch salt chlorinator back on.
13. Switch filter handle to 'filter'. (Or refit cartridge).
14. Add a clarifier to the pool
15. Run pump and filter until the pool is clean. (At least 6 hours).
16. Backwash (or clean) filter as often as required. Use the pressure gauge to see when it is required.
17. Re-test and adjust pool water chemistry as required.
18. Add Algae Killer at nominated rate.
