Sand filter operation

Warning: Always have pump off when changing filter valve setting.

Filter: Normal water filtering cycle. (Water goes through valve, down through media bed, up through standpipe to valve, and back through pool return).

Backwash: When pressure gauge indicates 30-40 kPa higher than starting pressure, clean the filter media by backwashing, until water in sight glass (or from waste outlet) runs clear: approx. 1 to 3 mins.  (Water goes through valve, down through standpipe, up through media bed, and through valve to waste).

Rinse: Rinse for about 10 to 30 seconds after every backwash to level media bed. Position also used for initial start-up. (Water goes through valve, down through media bed, up through standpipe, through valve to waste).

Waste: To lower pool water level, or assist in draining pool, or vacuuming debris from pool. (Water goes through valve to waste.)

Recirculate: This position bi-passes filter and is used for circulation of pool water only. (Water goes through valve and back to pool, not through filter.)

Closed: Used for service work.  Prevents any flow to filter and pool.  Do not run pump with filter in this position, or damage may result. (Water goes from pump to valve without further circulation.)
